MEET THE FOUNDERS
CO-FOUNDER, LEONARDO LOPEZ
The "Chief," a moniker given to him as respect for his Native Tribe, the mighty Purépechas, of Michoacán, Mexico. He is a recognized tequila aficionado, highly respected for his craft. He is native to the State of Michoacán, south of Guadalajara, and spent his childhood working in the blue agave fields.
CO-FOUNDER, JESSE LEE CARRIGAN
Jesse Carrigan, a consummate entrepreneur and visionary, native to Tampa, Florida is responsible for the design of the logo, the bottles, and all aspects of the packaging. Additionally, he was responsible for all import licenses and permits required to distribute and sell the tequila into the United States.
IT STARTED AT A BAR
In a chance encounter in 2005, Jesse, a Tampa native seeking entrepreneurial ventures, struck up a conversation with Leonardo, who was visiting from Guadalajara, Mexico, at a prominent cigar bar in Tampa, Florida. Leonardo shared his discovery of an exceptional tequila made in Amatitán, sparking their mutual interest in the industry.
MEETING OF MINDS
Leonardo, nicknamed "The Chief," for his heritage with the Purepecha tribe, with his deep roots in the tequila industry and expertise in agave cultivation and production, enlightened Jesse about the significance of the blue weber agave plant's "head," where the best juice resides and which produces only the finest tequila. With this, they decided then and there to name their new brand "Tequila Blue Head," paying homage to the blue weber agave's crucial role in crafting superior tequila.
HARNESSING TRADITION AND EXPERTISE
Fueled by their shared passion and cultural experiences, Jesse and Leonardo officially set out to create a tequila that embodies both craftsmanship and cultural heritage, blending American entrepreneurship with Mexican tradition to create a brand deeply rooted in authenticity and quality. After meticulous planning and refining their product, Jesse and Leonardo proudly introduced Tequila Blue Head to the world in 2008.
At every turn of their journey, from their chance encounter to the creation of their brand, Tequila Blue Head stands as a testament to the fusion of two worlds, —a testament to friendship, united by a shared love for tequila and a commitment to honor the heritage behind it, and the pursuit of excellence in the world of tequila.
TAMPA, FLORIDA, TO AMATITAN, JALISCO
Intrigued, Jesse embarks on a journey to Amatitán, Guadalajara, arriving amidst a cold, rainy night. Determined to find the source of the exceptional tequila, he finally stumbles upon a quaint, blue-painted building nestled in the Sierra Madres - the tequila distillery, where he is welcomed by Leonardo and locals in line to stock up on tequila for the holidays.
CULTURAL FUSION
Leonardo brings Jesse along to immerse himself in the local culture, attending a vibrant Christmas Festival (Fiesta,) where natives adorned themselves with painted faces and feathers, in the traditional colors of blue, red, yellow, green, and black, symbolizing the connection to nature and the reverence for tradition. Drawing inspiration from the culture they both admire, they designed the brand's original logo—a Nativo figure adorned with face paint and feathers, representing the rich heritage of Leonardo's Purepecha tribe and the essence of Tequila Blue Head.
